Maldives – China played a friendly football match to celebrate the 45th Anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations

Diplomats from the Maldives Embassy and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China played a friendly football match to celebrate  the 45th Anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the two countries.

The event started with welcome remarks by Ambassador Faisal followed by remarks by Deputy Director General of the Asian Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In his remarks Ambassador Faisal highlighted the close cordial relations that exist between the two countries, and the recent deepening of relations. Ambassador Faisal noted that China was one of Maldives closest development partners and that the two countries were enjoying a period of golden relations with enhanced economic cooperation and people to people contact.

The match was attended by senior officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China and their families and embassy diplomats and their families as well as some Maldivian students living in China. The Match was won 9-3 by  the Maldives Embassy team. The special match is part of the programme arranged to celebrate the historic milestone.

Maldives and China established bilateral relations on 14 October 1972.
